Shawn Peyton is an Auburn fan who says he called in a bomb threat to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome during the Detroit Lions playoff loss. He threatened to blow up the Superdome which was filled with 73,000 people while the Lions were losing to the New Orleans Saints.

The 34 year old Shawn Payton admitted to making the call this Friday afternoon. It happens that he shares the name with New Orleans head coach Sean Payton just with different spelling. He told one of the reception desk clerks “I will blow up your building” after the Saints built up a 10 point lead during the 3rd quarter.

Once the game was clear that the Saints would win he allegedly called in again and said “If your stupid Southern team keeps winning, there will be reper…severe consequences. OK?” The FBI was informed by Payton that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and it was just an overreaction. He also said he never would have hurt anyone.

Talk about someone freaking out during a game. The worst I’ve ever done is punch a hole in the wall which is still pretty bad but calling in a bomb threat?

  1. This just proves that any team is likely to have a few nutcases as fans. Detroit and Auburn are no more responsible for this nutcase then Alabama is for the nutcase that claims to have poisoned the trees at Toomer’s corner or the pervert in Krystal. LSU is not responsible for their fan who unprovoked hit a UA fan causing major injury including a broken jaw just because his team lost. Hopefully all 4 of these nuts will get what is coming to them and instead of an apology they will all be forced to share a jail cell and then be forced to watch only Vandy football games when they are not playing AU, LSU or UA. However the courts might consider that cruel and unusual punishment but give it to them anyway.

  2. I’m a Bama fan, once I was invited to an Alabama/Auburn game party that was televised back in the early 80s when Alabama wasn’t very good. I only knew a couple of people at the party, one was the guy who invited me, the other was another co-worker who happened to be an Auburn fan.
Auburn won the game, and after an hour or so we’re all standing around, everyone drinking beer except me, I really never cared for beer, anyway, my co-worker friend yelled “War Eagle!!” and somebody , out of nowhere came up behind him and hit him as hard as they could right in the eye!, Jeff fell to the ground and I yelled at the guy and started walking towards him, all of a sudden I was grabbed from behind and someone knocked me out while I was being held, we both went to work with black eyes the next Monday morning. Beer and sports mix sometime, but not that one.
